***CANCELLED***Protecting Small Business Contracting: Leadership Challenges at the Department of the Treasury

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 | 01:00 | Full Committee
On Wednesday, November 16, at 1:00 pm, the House Committee on Small Business will hold a hearing entitled Protecting Small Business Contracting: Leadership Challenges at the Department of the Treasury. The hearing will take place in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will address the failure of the Department of the Treasury to comply with Section 15(k) of the Small Business Act, and the consequences of that failure for small businesses.  Section 15(k)(3) requires that the Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization “be responsible only to, and report directly to, the head of such agency or to the deputy of such head,” but the Department of Treasury has been found by the Government Accountability Office to not be in compliance.  In early August 2011, Chairman Mick Mulvaney requested that the Department of the Treasury explain the steps it was taking to bring itself  into compliance, but the Department has yet  to make needed changes.  The Subcommittee will hear from the Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Treasury.
