Chairman Graves Applauds Passage of Small Business Extension Bill

Washington, May 31 -

WASHINGTON— House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today issued the following statement after the House passage of the Small Business Temporary Extension Act of 2011 (S. 1082) by a vote of 387-33:

“I am pleased that my colleagues voted to support our nation’s small businesses by preventing the expiration of seven SBA programs, including the vitally important SBIR and STTR programs. These programs will help spur economic growth and create jobs by designating research and development dollars to small businesses to provide government agencies new, cost-effective solutions – all at no additional cost to the taxpayer. At a time of 9% unemployment, we should be doing all that we can to assist our most dynamic job creators, America’s small business owners.

“This extension is also beneficial in providing more time to negotiate a long-term reauthorization.  We have a comprehensive reauthorization bill that has already been marked up by the Science & Technology Committee and the Small Business Committee, and is ready to be voted on in the House. H.R. 1425, ‘The Creating Jobs Through Small Business Innovation Act of 2011,’ has wide-spread bipartisan support and I hope that the House can act very soon to pass this legislation and work with the Senate towards a long-term solution that will bring more certainty to the small business research and development community.”

H.R. 1425 was introduced by House Small Business Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology Chairwoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC) on April 7th. The Science and Technology Committee marked up the bill on April 13th and the Small Business Committee marked up the bill on May 11th.
