***Postponed***Protecting Small Business Contracting: Leadership Challenges at Cabinet-Level Agencies

Tuesday, November 01, 2011 | 01:00 | Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce
On Tuesday, November 1, at 1:00 pm, the House Small Business Committee Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce will hold a hearing entitled Protecting Small Business Contracting: Leadership Challenges at Cabinet-Level Agencies. The hearing will take place in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will address the failure of the Department of  Treasury to comply with Section 15(k) of the Small Business Act, and the consequences of that failure for small businesses.  Section 15(k)(3) requires that the Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization “be responsible only to, and report directly to, the head of such agency or to the deputy of such head,” but the agencies in question have been found by the Government Accountability Office to not be in compliance.  In early August 2011, Chairman Mick Mulvaney requested that four noncomplying agencies explain the steps they were taking to bring themselves in compliance, but one agency has declined to make substantive changes.

Opening Statement:

  • Chairman Mick Mulvaney (R-SC)

    • The Honorable Neal Wolin, Deputy Secretary, United States Treasury, Washington, DC
