Graves Statement on Rising Unemployment Rate

Washington, D.C., December 3, 2010 -

House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) has issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate rose from 9.6% to 9.8% in November:

“It is disappointing that more than 15 million Americans remained without work in November – but this comes as no surprise considering the bad economic policies that continue to pour out of Washington.

“Thousands of American businesses have been unable to plan for holiday hiring or prepare to add jobs in 2011 because they have been forced to operate under the constant threat of higher taxes and more regulations.  Just yesterday, employers were dealt another blow when Majority Leaders acted directly against the will of the people and voted to raise taxes on small businesses.  It is a sad fact that this trend of high unemployment and sluggish job creation is almost certain to continue until Congress enacts common sense policies that will provide small businesses and families with some much needed certainty.”
