House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that 163,000 jobs were created in July, while the unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent:
“Persistently high unemployment and slowing GDP growth is not the recovery that the World’s greatest economy should be experiencing. With 42 consecutive months of unemployment above 8 percent, the President should be focused on private sector growth rather than division, envy and higher taxes. When President Obama is ready to pivot and focus on jobs again, House Republicans will have long list of bipartisan pro-growth solutions for him to sign into law.
“Small businesses want to grow and hire, but they are uncertain and burdened by what Washington is doing to the economy. The President is downplaying entrepreneurship and business, and campaigning to raise taxes. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refuses to join House Republicans in addressing our national debt crisis. This is no way to provide an environment that is conducive for strong small business success. House Republicans have a plan for job creators that will jumpstart the economy. We’ve tried the President’s agenda. It’s time for a change.”
