Subcommittee Chairman Collins Talks Small Business Cyber Security on National Television

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Subcommittee on Health and Technology Chairman Chris Collins (R-NY) appeared on the Fox Business Network to discuss yesterday's hearing on small businesses and cyber security. Although attacks on small businesses don’t make the headlines, a recent report shows nearly 20 percent of cyber-attacks are on small firms with less than 250 employees CLICK HERE to view the interview Small firms are easy targets for cyber criminals as many do not have the necessary security measures in place. According to Smantec, 18 percent of all targeted cyber-attacks were directed at small businesses with less than 250 employees. The report states that nearly 60 percent of small businesses will close within six months of a cyber-attack and that 77 percent of small businesses believe their company is safe from a cyber-attack; however the vast majority (87 percent) do not have a formal written security policy in place. |
