Week Ahead for the Committee: June 24-28
Committee to Hold Hearings on Trade Policy and Mobile Medical App Industry
The House Small Business Committee, chaired by Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO), today announced the schedule for the week of June 24, 2013:
On Wednesday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m., the House Small Business Committee will conduct a hearing titled Ready to Export: Small Business Policy Recommendations for USTR. The Committee will hear from a diverse panel of small businesses on their key priorities and recommendations for the United States Trade Representative, and how to best increase exports and create new jobs in the United States.
“Opening up new markets through international trade can be a great way for small businesses to grow and expand,” said Chairman Graves. “While only one percent of small businesses currently export, 95 percent of the world’s purchasing market lies outside of the United States. Helping small firms grow by opening access to these markets remains a goal of this committee and I look forward to continuing the conversation on how to help small businesses export.”
On Thursday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m., the Small Business Subcommittee on Health and Technology, under the chairmanship of Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), will conduct a hearing titled Mobile Medical App Entrepreneurs: Changing the Face of Health Care. The purpose of the hearing is to highlight the entrepreneurs who are creating mobile applications (apps) that will empower consumers to make better health care decisions.
“Over the last few years, mobile medical apps have revolutionized consumer health care, providing patients with access to health information any time and opening new avenues for them to communicate with their health care providers,” said Subcommittee Chairman Collins. “In addition, the medical app industry has also created an estimated 500,000 jobs and nearly $25 billion in revenue. I look forward to talking with these innovators and hearing about the federal regulatory challenges they encounter.”
