ICYMI: Small Business Optimism Index Shows Continued Trust in Economy

Washington – Today, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) released its May 2019 Small Business Optimism Index, which reports continued business optimism, and recorded increased expectations for sales, business conditions, and expansion.

According to the May 2019 NFIB survey:

  • 64 percent of owners reported capital outlays, the highest since February 2018.
  • 62 percent of owners reported hiring or trying to hire.
  • 24 percent of owners are expecting to increase compensation.
  • 30 percent of owners say now is a good time to expand, a five-point increase from April 2019.

“It’s clear from this report that small businesses are continuing to succeed in our strong economy.  I’m encouraged by the favorable environment for small businesses to thrive,” said House Committee on Small Business Ranking Member Steve Chabot (R-OH).
