Ranking Member Chabot Praises House Passage of Three Bipartisan Entrepreneurship Bills

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted three bipartisan bills reported out of the Small Business Committee. Following House passage of this legislation, House Committee on Small Business Ranking Member Steve Chabot (R-OH) said, “Our nation’s entrepreneurs and small business owners drive the economy, create jobs, and spur innovation. The bills passed by the House today encourage entrepreneurship among the formerly incarcerated and ensure a level playing field for small businesses competing for federal contracts.” H.R. 5146, the Unlocking Opportunities for Small Businesses Act of 2019 – introduced by Rep. Jim Hagedorn (R-MN) and Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA) H.R. 5146 requires federal government contracting officers to consider past performance when evaluating small businesses seeking to compete on federal prime contracts. H.R. 5065, the Prison to Proprietorship for Formerly Incarcerated Act – introduced by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) H.R. 5065 provides re-entry entrepreneurship counseling and training services for formerly incarcerated individuals. H.R. 5130, the Capturing All Small Businesses Act of 2019 – introduced by Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX) and Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) H.R. 5130 modifies the Small Business Administration’s size calculation for employee based firms, allowing them more time to build their competitiveness. |
