Committee on Small Business Invites SBA Administrator Guzman to Testify alongside SBA Inspector General Ware Amidst Concerning Fraud Reports

Committee Invites SBA Administrator Guzman to Testify

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, invited the Honorable Isabella Guzman, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), to testify before the Committee on Small Business alongside SBA Inspector General Hannibal “Mike” Ware on July 13th, 2023.

The SBA Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report on June 27, 2023, which conservatively concluded that the SBA disbursed more than $200 billion in potentially fraudulent loans through the pandemic relief programs. Nearly three hours later on that same day, the SBA released a report arguing that the fraud in these programs is actually closer to $36 billion, not the $200 billion claimed by the independent OIG. Given the drastic discrepancy in these reports, and the lack of an adequate plan to recoup these stolen taxpayer funds, the Committee on Small Business is extending an invitation to Administrator Guzman to testify at the hearing which was previously scheduled only with Inspector General Ware. We believe the presence of both offices is imperative to ensure we work together to root out the fraud in these programs and recoup these funds for the taxpayers.

The hearing will take place on Thursday, July 13th, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. EDT in room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Official hearing notice can be found here.
