WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed seven small business bills under suspension favorably out of the chamber. Chairman Roger Williams (TX-25) issued the following statement on the legislation.

“The House Small Business Committee is wasting no time getting to work for Main Street America,” said Chairman Williams. “Small businesses deserve quick, decisive action to improve the state of the economy, lower taxes, and reduce regulatory burdens. These seven pieces of bipartisan legislation are just the first steps we will take in the 119^th Congress to drive meaningful change to unleash the golden age of small businesses.”

H.R 825, Assisting Small Businesses Not Fraudsters Act – sponsored by Chairman Williams (TX-25), Reps. Simon (CA-12), and Mfume (MD-07).

• The bill holds fraudsters accountable by ensuring those convicted of financial crimes related to COVID-19 loans cannot receive future financial assistance from the SBA.

H.R. 832, Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act – sponsored by Chairman Williams (TX-25), Reps. Van Drew (NJ-02), Tran (CA-45), and Goodlander (NH-02).

• The bill allows the SBA’s Office of Advocacy to speak on behalf of American small businesses when discussing trade or regulatory initiatives that may impact small businesses with foreign governments.

H.R. 818, SPUR Act – sponsored by Reps. Stauber (MN-08), Cisneros (CA-31), and Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03).

• The bill increases the ability for small businesses to compete in the industrial base by requiring the SBA to factor in the number of new entrants who won a federal procurement contract when grading agencies for use in its scorecard.

H.R. 788, DOE and SBA Research Act – sponsored by Reps. LaLota (NY-01), Morrison (MN-03), and Thanedar (MI-13).

• The bill requires that the SBA and the Department of Energy (DOE) partner to increase small business opportunities in DOE research.

H.R. 754, Investing in Main Street Act  – sponsored by Reps. Chu (CA-28), Finstad (MN-01), McIver (NJ-10), and Garbarino (NY-02).

• The bill authorizes banking entities to increase investment amounts in small businesses and Small Business Investment Companies.

H.R. 804, Rural Small Business Resilience Act – sponsored by Reps. Morrison (MN-03), Downing (MT-02), Pappas (NH-01), and Bean (FL-04).

• The bill requires the SBA’s Office of Disaster to take action to ensure those in rural areas hit by disaster receive full access to disaster assistance.

H.R. 828, SERV Act – sponsored by Reps. Davids (KS-03), Alford (MO-04), and Conaway (NJ-03).

• The bill requires the SBA to report on access to capital limitations veteran small business owners face. It will also report on the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development and outreach plans to promote programs and services to veterans.
