Companies racing to produce rare earths in the U.S. will appear before the House this week amid growing tensions with China, which dominates the global supply of the valuable chemical elements.

Rare earths are a set of elements needed for defense and energy technology, including electric vehicles and renewable energy sources.

Also appearing before the committee will be executives from Rare Earth Salts and the Rivalia Chemical Co. The companies are focused on recovering rare earths from waste streams like coal ash.

The Committee, chaired by Republican Rep. Roger Williams of Texas, said the hearing will focus on the role that small businesses play in the rare earth and critical minerals industry.

The Trump Administration is in the midst of assessing just how damaging China’s export restrictions on rare earths are for U.S. automakers and other companies.

Schedule: The hearing is Tuesday, June 24, at 10 a.m. in 2360 Rayburn and via webcast.

Witnesses:

Aaron Dowd, CEO, Rare Earth Salts

Harvey Kaye, Executive Director, U.S. Critical Materials

Ken Mushinski, CEO, Rare Element Resources

Laura Stoy, CEO, Rivalia Chemical Co.
