On Tuesday, by a vote of 230-182, the House voted to provide drought relief to California farmers, giving federal and state agencies the authority to move more water to dry areas, now experiencing a third consecutive year of drought.
On Wednesday, the House passed S. 1691 without opposition, sending the bill to the President to become law. The legislation strengthens U.S. capabilities in combating cyber attacks and reforms the overtime payment system for Custom and Border Protection’s (CBP) Border Patrol to save taxpayer dollars and better secure the border.
Also on Wednesday, by a bipartisan vote of 417-7, the House passed the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (TRIA) of 2014 (S. 2244),which extends the TRIA program for six years to protect economic security and give businesses certainty, with needed reforms to protect taxpayers and ensure transparency and accountability.
Also on Wednesday, the House passed The Howard Coble Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2014, which reauthorizes the Coast Guard and its operations for 2015, and provides the necessary tools and resources to accomplish their mission.
On Thursday, the House passed major legislation to fund the U.S. government and prevent a government shutdown. Known in the media as the “Cromnibus” bill, the bill combined a group of appropriations legislation (commonly known an omnibus) that funds most of the government through September 2015 with a Continuing Resolution to fund Homeland Security through February 2015 to allow more time to consider various policies that affect our nation’s borders and safety before a longer-term appropriation is passed.
