Washington – House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Steve Chabot (R-OH) released the following statement on the House passing four bipartisan Committee bills earlier this week:

“The legislation passed this week includes provisions to increase federal contracting opportunities, encourage innovation, and expand access to capital for small businesses.  These initiatives will provide small business owners with the resources they need to support and grow their businesses, which in turn supports and grows the American economy.  I am pleased by the bipartisan support of this Small Business Committee legislation and thank Committee Members on both sides of the aisle for their work and commitment to America’s entrepreneurs.”

H.R. 116, “Investing in Main Street Act of 2019” – introduced by Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC)
H.R. 116 would increase the amount of capital a national bank can invest in small businesses investment companies (SBIC) subject to federal approval.

H.R. 246, “Stimulating Innovation through Procurement Act of 2019” – introduced by Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) and Rep. John Curtis (R-UT)
H.R. 246 would initiate changes to the Small Business Act to aid small businesses participating in SBIR and STTR programs, with assistance in reaching commercialization, solicitations for federal contracts, and bid submissions. 

H.R. 206, “Encouraging Small Business Innovation Act” – introduced by Rep. Harley Rouda (D-CA)
H.R. 206 would make a series of changes to the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, making them easier for small firms to use.

H.R. 190, “Expanding Contracting Opportunities for Small Businesses Act of 2019” – introduced by Rep. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL)
H.R. 190 would increase the size of sole source contract awards for women owned, service-disabled veteran-owned, HUBZone, and socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses, and would implement a new eligibility determination process to ensure sole source awards are made to eligible firms.
